Bali Bras

From LoveToKnow Lingerie

Bali bras have earned a solid reputation as one of the most comfortable and flattering undergarments around. The company's status as the top department store retailer reinforces their superior products.

Bali bras are designed to fit.

History

Bali bras were conceived in 1927, by Sara Stein. While working for a bra manufacturer, Stein realized that more flattering undergarments could be made for women. Previously, women’s bras did not focus on style, nor were they particularly comfortable or flattering. Stein set out to create a better bra, and in doing so, started the ball rolling on what would eventually become a very popular and profitable company.

Initially, Stein started sewing a newly designed bra with a small Singer sewing machine in her cramped apartment. Her husband, who worked as a sales clerk at a men’s store, started selling her product to local stores. Previously, the company was called Fay-Miss, a play on the word 'famous.' Bra sales soared and the Stein's earned $10,000 during their first year in business. In 1935, the company changed their name to Bali Brassiere Company.

Company Acquisitions

The Steins continued to expand the company by emphasizing what women really wanted in an undergarment. Qualities like a great fit, quality, comfort, and functionality were incorporated in every bra that Bali produced. The Hanes Corporation acquired Bali Brassiere Company in 1969, and in 1979, Hanes was acquired by Consolidated Foods Company. In 1985, Consolidated Foods became the Sara Lee Corporation.

Industry Firsts

Bali bras continued as an innovator in the foundations industry, with a number of firsts, including:

  • Introduced the first bias cup bra
  • Developed the first all-cotton bra
  • Created the 'custom fit' system
  • Created the Wonderbra
  • Introduced the Seductive Curves bra, a full-support, foam, plunge bra
  • Created the first gel strap, called Shoulder Spa, to cushion shoulders

Top Selling Bras

Among department stores, Bali bras are the number one brand. With a history of quality undergarments, Bali is a leader in the industry.

In the 1980s, Hanes Her Way and Just My Size Brands were introduced, and by the 1990’s, the company added a line of panties, including the BarelyThere brand. Playtex is also part of the Hanes/Bali family.

Types of Bali Bras

Overall, the principle elements of the Steins' first brassiere concept have stood the test of time. The company maintains its innovative status by creating quality undergarments. These garments appeal to a woman’s sense of style and comfort, enhance the female shape and provide exceptional fit. Choices in affordable Bali bras include:

Bali Fit Events

Attention: Decisionmaker. This is my first and last contact with you; and you won't get many from my part of the population. One of your recent TV ads got something RIGHT that everybody else gets WRONG. The model's expression (and the text) included the word "MODESTY" ! Her message seemed to be "Wait till you see the dress that goes with this !" and NOT "I just put this on. Do you want me to take it off again ?" Women are NOT objects. Some are my wife, daughters, or granddaughters, entitled to Respect !

Hi there! Just wanted to comment on bra style 3353 which I just purchased at my local Macy's. FINALLY I found the right size for me, a 36DDD and it fits me wonderfully! Though I am on disability and a very low fixed income I still made the investment because of how well this particular bra fits me. SHame on Victoria's Secret-their secret is they don't even carry that size in their stores! shame on them, I'm sticking with you all forever! Thanks for a great product!
