By the mid-1920s, the flapper look was in full swing. 1920s women’s fashions were straight, loose and emphasized a boyish silhouette. Seamstress Sara Stein, who worked for a company that made bras, decided to design a bra that would do the job but be more comfortable. Her husband Sam offered the bras to sell in shops. They were an instant hit. The company was first called Fay-Miss, but in 1935 changed its name to Bali.
