BraStraps.com Interview
From LoveToKnow Lingerie
Colombian singer and songwriter, Margarita Couture, came up with an exciting, new idea of removable, designer bra straps that coordinate with any outfit. Margarita was inspired during one of her performances, from constantly changing outfits between sets. To a fashion-conscious girl, the innovative concept made sense and in 2001, BraStraps.com was born.
Today, BraStraps.com offers over 90 different bra strap styles and colors, along with a new convertible bra named Evolution. The Evolution bra creates the appearance of cosmetic breast implants.
LoveToKnow wanted to know more about Margarita Couture and her designer bra straps. We had a chance to interview Margarita and find out more about this fashion phenomenon.
Interview Questions
You mention that your bra straps are sold worldwide. Do you design specific designs to reflect cultural differences?
No, we offer the same designs worldwide, as much of the world follows what is popular in the United States when it comes to fashion.
What's the most unique bra strap set you offer?
A limited edition set of 18K gold-plated, jewelry bra straps with Swarovski crystals.
What are your bra straps generally made of? Are they the same material used in conventional bras?
The materials depend on the strap style, but include cotton and spandex for the fabric straps (found in many conventional bras), transparent polyurethane for the clear straps, and nickel-free silver for the Elite jewelry straps.
Do you offer your bra straps in any major clothing or lingerie stores? If so, which ones?
No, currently we are focused on smaller boutiques worldwide, with the exception of QVC, where we have been selling several styles.
Are your bra straps available in different sizes?
The bra straps are adjustable to fit any size. Super wide bra straps as well as extra thin straps are available to suit your preference.
Tell me about the "Ugly Bra Strap Syndrome" and your fashion violation e-mail notification system.
For too long women have seemed to accept the fact that because they wear a bra out of necessity it is acceptable to let straps show no matter what the condition. We have dubbed this condition "Ugly Bra Strap Syndrome" because, like a disease, showing ugly bra straps spread quickly when women would notice other women wearing their straps in this fashion and deciding that they could get away with it as well. Our Strap Police fashion violation notification system was created to help put a stop to this practice by allowing citations from concerned friends, coworkers or family to be sent to those committing a strap fashion faux paux.
Do you need to wear a special bra to benefit from your fashionable bra straps?
They can be worn with any convertible bra simply by attaching them to the bra strap hooks.
What inspired you to create the Evolution convertible bra that mimics the appearance of cosmetic breast implants?
Although breast augmentation surgery is on the rise, there are still many who wish to have such a look without the cost or risks inherent with a procedure of this type. The Evolution bra was designed as a safe and inexpensive alternative, and convertible straps prevent Ugly Bra Strap Syndrome - simply change the straps to match whatever outfit you happen to be wearing and you're ready for any occasion.
