Bra Fitting Training
From LoveToKnow Lingerie
If you are looking to get into the lingerie business, bra fitting training is a definite must on your resume.
About Bra Fitting Training
Anyone who has ever worn an ill-fitting bra knows how very uncomfortable they are. Not only is comfort an issue, but bras that do not fit properly can also cause back problems, poor posture (which further exacerbates back problems) and tense neck and back muscles. When larger chested women wear ill-fitting bras, the straps can also dig into the shoulders, causing further muscle pain. These reasons, as well as the aesthetic reasons, are why women should always get professionally fitted for the proper bra. Keep reading to get an idea of what goes into professional bra fitting training.
Bra Fitting Courses
The length of bra fitting courses varies. Some courses run about a day, while others run longer. Here's what trainees are expected to learn during these courses:
History
Instructors go over the history of the bra and include things such as:
- Origination of the bra – The bra has a very long history. If you want to be an expert in bra fitting, you need to know the history of the undergarment.
- Styles – Instructors go into detail about designs and styles of bras from the past to modern day trends.
Sizes
There are so many different sized bras on the market, it is important to learn things like:
- Chest and cup size differences – Class instructors explain in depth the differences between bra chest and cup size measurements and the importance of knowing those differences.
- Cup cuts and styles – In these classes, students learn, in detail, the differences between the many different cup cut and styles such as a balconette, demi and plunge.
Construction
The construction of a bra is just as important as the fit. When professionally fitting someone for a bra, you need to also be able to recommend the proper type of material for their chest size and lifestyle needs.
Specialty Bra Information
In this part of the training, you learn how to fit specialty bras such as:
- Mastectomy bras
- Nursing bras
- Sports bras
Fit
After you get all the background knowledge and history of bras, you will begin your actual fitting training. In this part of your training you will learn how to properly fit a bra based on breast size, chest size and body type. You will also learn how to match bras to fit the woman's lifestyle needs.
Reviewing What You've Learned
At the end of every training course, no matter the length, instructors review everything that was covered during the course and give students an opportunity to get any remaining questions they may have answered.
Why Get Training?
A bra is an important foundation undergarment for women of every size and shape. Without the proper support, not only will it cause the problems mentioned above, like back pain and muscle tension, but can also cause damage to the breast tissue itself.
Professionally speaking, if you are looking to get into a career in the lingerie industry, you are expected, at the very least, to have attended a bra fitting training course. After all, you cannot successfully buy and sell a product that is meant to be both fashionable and functional if you don't know how to properly fit the bra to the woman who wants to buy it.
Where to Get Training
Most training regarding learning how to properly fit a bra is given by individual retailers. High end retailers often have professional buyers or consultants come in to give in-store classes. If you do not work at a lingerie store but want to get training for how to properly fit bras to a woman's body, simply give a few stores in your area a call and ask them if you can attend their next training session.
