Enhancing Underwear

From LoveToKnow Lingerie

Enhancing underwear for women is nothing new. Corsets were always padded to suit the fashions, and even many curvy women like padded bras. But underwear padded to create a fuller hourglass is gaining popularity, thanks to people remembering that extra curves are very sexy.

Some outfits demand a bit of padding to look their best.

History of Enhancing Underwear

Fashion is often about the foundation and foundation garments have a long and storied history in both men's and women's clothes. Women used corsets for centuries to cinch their waists and uplift their bosoms, as well as maintain the straight back that was so prized. Along the way, additions were made to suit the given styles, so that in Elizabethan and later Colonial eras, panniers were worn on the hips. In the 19th century, the S-shape was all the rage and women wore bustles to give themselves a nice rounded behind.

Throughout much of the 20th century, the enhancement was all in the upper portions, with women opting for bras that gave them more defined curves. While they might naturally be curvy throughout, the trend was for a smoother silhouette and so girdles were worn to hug in the stomach. That said, some girdles were lightly padded if a woman was a bit too thin for fashion. In the 1950s, the hourglass figure was all the rage, so women wore heavy crinolines over their girdles to give their skirts more sweep.

A curvy look was still prized in the 1960s, as can be seen on the show Mad Men, where the rounder women are much more desirable than their slimmer sisters. Healthy curves soon went out of style, but if the growing interest in enhancing underwear is any indication, they might be on the verge of a comeback.

The Look of Added Enhancement

While male enhancing underwear draws attention to a man's front, for women, it's all about the behind. Call it the J-Lo effect, if you like. Many women are interested in a more rounded look to fill out jeans or give a tight skirt a bit more interest, and they are finding that it's easier to buy underwear that does the job rather than try and put on more weight. After all, weight gain might lead to unwanted curves, whereas a little extra padding in one area guarantees a sexy look.

Shopping for Padded Underwear

Unlike the bra equivalent, enhancing underwear is classified as more of a specialized garment, so isn't as widely available in lingerie shops. However, you can find a number of choices by shopping online.

One of the best shops for browsing and buying is Love My Bubbles, whose motto is "Take Your Gluteus to the Maximus!" They offer an enormous selection of butt lifters, padded underwear, shapewear and items for men and plus size women.

Just in the padded underwear section alone, you can choose from panties, boy shorts, mid-rise and low-rise. Some specific options include:

  • Foxy Fanny Silicone Panty. This is a mid-rise panty that flattens the tummy while boosting the bottom. It includes half-inch thick silicone pads for a nice rounding effect, but also comes with one-inch thick pads if you want a little more enhancement.
  • Can-Can Padded Panty. A mid-rise panty with removable foam pads.
  • Fancy Fanny Padded Panty. A lacy boy short, adding femininity and trendiness to your enhanced look.
  • Bunhuggers. Seamless enhancing underwear that is light, smooth and made of soft microfiber. It is noted, however, that you can't use silicone pads with these panties, as they are too heavy.
  • Caboost! Lowrise Padded Panty. Featuring built-in foam pads to give your sagging bottom the lift it needs to look perky again. You can also get a Caboost in a mid-rise or with an attached waist cincher.

You could spend a small fortune in surgery to give you the bottom you've always dreamed of, but you might be better off saving the thousands and just buying some high-quality padded panties instead.
