Fruit of the Loom Sports Bra
From LoveToKnow Lingerie
Good quality exercise wear can be hard to find, so many people like to opt for a trusted name, and that's what a Fruit of the Loom sports bra aims to live up to.
Fruit of the Loom Sports Bra
Although Fruit of the Loom is most famous for its men's briefs and T-shirts, it also makes a range of women's underwear. Its sports bras come in three styles –- a tank strap top, racerback top and a spaghetti strap. All feature a simple, streamlined design that puts function first, which is what you want in a performance bra. The aim is to provide adequate support and complete comfort while doing a range of low-impact sports or activities.
These sports bras are made of 2-ply cotton Lycra spandex, which is fully machine washable and can be tumble dried. The many comfort factors include no underwire, which, although it can enhance support, can create chafing and irritation during exercise. Instead, there is a covered elastic band at the bottom of the bra and go on over the head. While this can be awkward initially, requiring adjustment once on, the lack of hooks or snaps also maintains comfort while sweating. Finally, instead of having a tag that can scratch or otherwise irritate, all the information necessary is printed on the inside of the bra itself.
Not a Running Bra
While many women like Fruit of the Loom sports bras for their light support and comfort as well as their low price, most who wear them are quick to point out that the company is not exaggerating when it says that the bras are only for use during low-impact activities. Walking, Pilates and yoga are good high-sweat but low-impact sports that suit a bra that feels like a T-shirt. But this is definitely not a high-performance sports bra. Many women wear it not for exercise at all, but rather for just feeling comfortable while doing work around the house or running errands.
It should also be noted that even for exercise, this is not a great bra for women with larger busts. Although the bra stretches and expands, most women above a D cup find it to be impractical for anything other than layering. That said, a few women comment that it was a good yoga bra to wear when they were pregnant and their breasts growing daily, because of that expansion. It cut down the amount of shopping they needed to do considerably.
While people tout the comfort and price, a few other drawbacks are noted. The racerback bra has non-adjustable straps, which is difficult for larger women. It also has plastic rings that connect the straps and the body of the bra, which can cut or chafe when active, as well as make for a less durable bra. Finally, most wearers suggest washing the bra before wearing, otherwise it can itch.
Where to Buy
Fruit of the Loom sports bras can be found at Wal-Mart and all your favorite online shopping sites such as Amazon. Unlike buying a sports bra for running, which must be tried on, these are sold in competitively priced 3-packs and you can either get mixed colors or single. The tank and spaghetti strap bras are readily available everywhere, but the racerback can be a bit harder to find. Most shoppers who have bought them at Wal-Mart note that they are not sold in a pack but instead are hanging on the racks. If you don't mind sorting through the bras, you'll usually find the size you're after.
Bra Maintenance
Because this is a low-end bra, you should not expect it to last as long as other sports bras. And in fact, if you wear it for sports, you shouldn't keep it too long because it will stretch out. However, if you wash it in cold water and hang it to dry, it will last much longer.
