How to Buy the Right Ladies' Lingerie
From LoveToKnow Lingerie
It’s something a lot of boyfriends, partners, husbands, etc. want to know: how to buy the right ladies’ lingerie for their sweetheart? They’ve heard that lingerie is fussy, that a majority of women still don’t wear the correct bra size and that corsets can be difficult to get in and out of. They also know that even a partner of many years can feel self-conscious in lingerie. But when you get the right item, everyone is happy, so it’s worth a bit of time and effort to make that happen.
Problems With Buying Lingerie
Even many women don’t really know how to buy the right ladies’ lingerie. Besides the difficulty of finding a bra that fits properly and gives the desired amount of support and coverage, never mind actually being pretty or sexy, it’s hard to choose items that are genuinely flattering. Even a confident woman can feel uncomfortable seriously assessing her body to determine what will bring out the ultimate in sexiness. As difficult as it can be to choose outerwear, underwear from the practical to the wild is always ten times worse.
Choosing a size for a corset or bustier is tricky and tends to require fitting, especially if you are buying a high-quality piece that is meant to last (and there’s almost no point in buying anything else). With a cheap piece, it can be difficult to find something that fits properly in the waist and the bust.
While garter belts have hooks and eyes for adjustment, even these can take several tries to get a good fit. They can be uncomfortable more than not, as a poorer quality belt can slide down to the hips and dig in or constrict movement. Furthermore, the garters may stretch and not hold the stockings at the right height.
How to Buy the Right Ladies’ Lingerie
One way to circumvent some of the above is to opt for items that don’t require such careful fitting, like teddies or baby doll nightgowns. If you think these tend to be more pretty and floaty, guess again – they can come in animal prints and be very sexy. They often come with a pair of matching panties or a thong. Top them with a light robe or peignoir and you don’t have to bother with stockings or anything else that requires fuss.
When buying a teddy, chemise or negligee for someone else, it’s best to know their dress size before you enter the store or go online. The more you know, the better, so if you can get the bra size too, that will help. But many of the looser fitting items will come in small, medium or large, so if you know the dress size, a clerk will be able to help you choose.
One of your most important considerations is color. No one feels good if their skin isn’t flattered. Think about a color you know your lady looks great in and go for that. You can also just skim through her wardrobe and take note of the main color in there and choose accordingly. Surprises are great, but you want her to feel her best and this is not a time to try a random new hue.
When it comes to choosing a style, be reasonable. Remember the most important rule: this is not for you! Yes, you should get to enjoy it, but you have to think of her, not you. If she prefers something more conservative, don’t go for something outrageous. Pay attention to what she already owns and look for something along those lines.
Think About Accessories
If you’re still feeling worried about how to buy the right ladies’ lingerie, just go for something simple and add a few fun accessories. These make the present different and they always fit. A pair of long gloves, a ribbon to go around the neck, a frilly garter to wear around the thigh – they’ve been considered sexy for hundreds of years and are still going strong. Try them – no one will be disappointed.
