Interview with the Founder of Adea Lingerie
How did Adea get started? How did you get started in lingerie?
I moved to Italy a few years after finishing college and started buying lingerie. I loved the comfortable and flattering fit and began bringing some home to friends and family, who immediately fell in love with it.
I had studied International business in college and was looking for something to combine my love for all things Italian and business. So, I began to research fabrics and manufacturers because I noticed there was definitely a lack of affordable, high quality daywear in the US. After about a year of researching in Italy and at various European trade shows I found a special micro fiber and began working with excellent manufacturers in southern Italy to produce underwear and daywear. Adea launched in late 2001 in NYC and has since continued to grow at a great pace.
Was there one piece of lingerie that was your claim to fame, so to speak?
Adea's simple, spaghetti strap shell camisole was the piece that really took off. Because Adea's micro fiber fabric is so comfortable, lightweight and durable it works great for layering. From that simple camisole, the Adea collection has grown to include long sleeve tops, mock necks and a wide range of camisoles and tanks.
What makes Adea stand out among all the other lingerie lines out there?
Adea's combination of high quality fabric, excellent Italian construction and fit and classic silhouettes available at affordable prices makes Adea stand out among all other lingerie lines.
Aside from good bra and panty sets, what would you say no woman's lingerie drawer should be without?
No woman's lingerie drawer should be without Adea's black or nude camisole. It serves to smooth out bra lines, wicks away moisture and maintains body temperature. Adea's camisole is a great compliment to an outfit, peaking out slightly from underneath a blouse, shirt, jacket or sweater. And the camisole won't catch on any fabrics because of its silky soft hand.
You use Meryl micro fiber in some of your pieces. Does that material stay hidden better than average (panty lines, for example)? Tell us a bit more about Adea's use of micro fiber.
Adea uses Meryl micro fiber, a lightweight, silky soft micro fiber made from polyamide and elastane. We do not use any Lycra. Meryl micro fiber allows for greater elasticity, lighter weight and a silkier hand. All of Adea's underwear and layering tops are much less restrictive than the average daywear line, making them infinitely more comfortable. Adea's underwear stays put and stays hidden because of the fabric properties.
If you could sum up Adea in one word, what would it be?
INDISPENSABLE!
