Lingerie Football League

The Lingerie Football League, referred to now simply as the LFL, features scantily clad women playing football.

Before the league expanded, it found its beginnings as a half-time show during the Super Bowl. The concept was so wildly popular that the league has now expanded to ten teams based out of various major cities in the United States. Here's a list of the current LFL teams. The franchise continues to expand, so expect more teams to be added in the future:

Officials announced plans to add the New York Majesty to the league and Mitchell Mortaza announced that he will be bringing the LFL to North Carolina in 2010 with his expansion team, the Charlotte Crush.

The LFL games are different from regular NFL games, of course, but make no mistake, these are far from powder puff or flag football games. These ladies play full contact, seven on seven football on a 50 yard field. During game play, the ladies don helmets, shoulder pads, shorts and lingerie style tops. Okay, so not the full protective gear of the men who throw the ball around for the NFL, but full contact football nonetheless. Here are some other basics of LFL game play:

• Eight yard end zones – NFL regulation fields have 10 yard end zones.
• Seven players on the field at a time – The NFL has 11 players on the field at a time.
• No field goals
• No punts
• Two 15-minute halves – NFL games consist of four 15-minute quarters.
• 35-second play clock – NFL regulation play clock is 40 seconds.

Unlike the NFL, there are no pre-season games in Lingerie football. The ladies hit the field around the same time as the regular NFL season begins in September and their season runs until around the end of January the following year.

The LFL consists of two major conferences:

The following teams make up the LFL's Eastern conference:

• Tampa Breeze

With both soon to be added New York Majesty and Charlotte Crush being in the east, it's unclear as to how the league will decide on which team will go to which conference.

Tryouts for the LFL are held in each team's individual city and run from around the end of March to the beginning of May. Once the tryouts conclude, mini-camp for the league begins around the middle of May. You can find more detailed information about tryouts on the league's MySpace page.

Well, the LFL doesn't require much at tryouts but they do expect you to be fit, as you will run a few offensive and defensive drills, and they also expect you to know how to pass and catch a football. Players that make it through the tryouts are asked to come back for a two day mini-camp. Mini camps are closed to the public and are by invite only.

The Lingerie Football League is similar to NFL, but more like Arena Football play and the players wear far less clothing and gear than both NFL and Arena football players. There may not be special teams, offensive or defensive line coaches, rookies of the year or anything else like that, but the ladies in the LFL come to play and come to win for every single game. At the end of every season, there is even a Lingerie Bowl, where the top teams from each conference battle it out for the trophy and title of LFL champions.
