Marisa Miller: The Discovery

Born in Santa Cruz, California in 1980, Marisa has always been the adventurous type. In high school, she was a star player on the volleyball team. A big sports fan, her interests also include surfing in Southern California. Who would know that this would open the door to many modeling opportunities. In 2001, she was discovered by Mario Testino, (a famous photographer), while surfing the waves in Santa Barbara.

Marisa’s New Opportunities

Modeling was not Marisa’s initial career choice. She had planned to go to college and pursue nursing, since she comes from a family of nurses . Marisa has also considered becoming a sportscaster. Since she is such a sport’s fanatic, this direction would be a natural one for her. Imagine what kind of reaction she would get if she went into the men’s locker room to talk to the players!

After her discovery, it was her mother who advised her to go into modeling, telling her that she could always go “back to school” later in life.

Marisa’s first modeling job was in 1997 for Perfect 10 magazine, where she posed in the nude. Her popularity in that issue lead to three more issues, one in 1998,1999 and 2004. Despite her taboo start modeling unclothed, Victoria’s Secret took notice, and she became a lingerie model.. Marisa’s career then began to flourish with many new opportunities.

Commercial Contracts

As Marisa Miller became a household name, several companies pursued her to participate as a model in their commercial advertising. Some of the companies worth mentioning are: Tommy Hillfiger, J. Crew, Nordstrom, Michael Stars, and Andrew Marks.

When she’s not modeling, involved with sports or rocking out, she spends time with her husband – Griffin Guess a California commercial and music video executive . Married recently on April 15, 2006, she is still a newlywed.
