Water Bras
From LoveToKnow Lingerie
Some women have breasts the size they want; for those who would like to have a more womanly shape, water bras offer an inexpensive and safe alternative to breast augmentation.
About Water Bras
What exactly are water bras? Brassieres with water inserts or lined with water are one of the latest revolutions in breast-enhancing lingerie. Like padded bras, water-filled bras help to augment the look of the breast by making it appear fuller and adding size.
Advantages
While padded bras have long been a popular choice in women's lingerie, liquid bras have some advantages not offered by the standard padded cup. The realistic look of water inserts or water cups in a bra is a large selling point--women may want to enhance their bosoms, but only in a way that is flattering and realistic. No woman wants to look like a seventh-grader with socks stuffed in her bra. The weight and slight movement of water bras is much more akin to the natural look and feel of the breasts than foam or other padding.
Water-filled brassieres are also a less expensive and safer option than surgical breast augmentation. Available at department stores and lingerie shops, the bras allow enhancement when you want it without the expensive surgery. If a woman is unhappy with the size or shape of her breasts, wearing a sexy bra can enhance her appearance and allow her to feel more confident.
Disadvantages
When considering the purchase of a water bra, there are also potential disadvantages to take into consideration. While the puncturing or eruption of the water or inserts is unlikely, it is possible that leakage can occur if the lining is severed with a sharp object or pressure is applied to the point of bursting. This could result in a highly embarrassing scenario. As depicted in a season two episode of the popular television show Will and Grace when her desire for impressive breasts prompts Grace to wear a water-filled bra, an embarrassing leaking mishap may be more trouble than the bra is worth.
Types of Bras
Like most bras, there are many types and colors of the water variety. These may come with removable water inserts or fixed water lining. Types of bras with water enhancements include:
- Push-up bras: Push-up, or underwire bras, increase cleavage and offer excellent support for the breasts. Push-up bras are perfect for a variety of clothing options and especially attractive for v-neck tops.
- Seamless or t-shirt bras: Seamless bras, often referred to as t-shirt bras, are designed from smooth materials that are meant to be worn under form-fitting materials, knits or t-shirts and provide a smooth appearance. These come in both standard and underwire styles.
- Plunging or U bra: Designed for formal wear or garments with plunging necklines, the plunging or "U" bras offer side support and nipple coverage while maintain an open U shape in the front center. This allows strategic and appropriate support and enhancement in garments with low necklines. Water inserts may be available to assist in a flattering appearance and increased cleavage.
- Strapless bras: Water strapless bras are excellent for formal wear and strapless dresses and tops. The water can provide the additional support needed to create the most flattering look.
Is It Just Water?
Most water inserts or water linings in bras are not just water. They may be filled with a combination of water and oils or other materials in order to create the right balance of movement and texture. Gel and silicone inserts also provide similar enhancement and are often referred to as water bras. In the rare case of leakage or enhancement, the materials in most bras will not be harmful, although they should be disposed of.
Costs and Where to Buy
As with most lingerie, the price for water bras varies depending on the manufacturer, materials used, and size. Prices generally range from around fifteen to fifty dollars.
You can buy enhancing bras filled with water, gel or silicone from most department stores and lingerie shops. Online, you can find them at:
Care
These bras need to be treated gently to avoid damaging or puncturing the linings. A mild detergent, warm water and hand-washing is recommended for most bras of this type; however, always read the manufacturers' instructions for specific care.
