Wearing Bras with Different Outfits
From LoveToKnow Lingerie
There are many considerations you have to take into account when choosing a bra to wear with your outfit. Do the straps show on your shoulders? Does part of the bra show through your clothes as an unsightly bulge? It's easy to destroy a great outfit by wearing the wrong bra!
Information about Wearing Bras with Different Outfits
Your biggest weapon against wearing the wrong bra is the mirror. Move your shoulders, lean over and see if your blouse shifts so your bra is seen. Pull your blouse against your chest and see if it shows. In addition, you should never be able to see the seam of your bra beneath your clothing. You should also be certain you are wearing the correct sized bra.
Choosing the Right Fabric Color for your Bra
One of the biggest mistakes women make when choosing a bra is not choosing the correct color beneath their clothing. If you’re wearing an opaque blouse, you don’t have to worry about the color of your bra. Go crazy. But if you’re wearing white or a light color, wear a nude-colored bra that closely matches your skin to keep it hidden. Even white bras can show through a white blouse.
Clothing and Bras
One of the hardest things about wearing bras with different outfits is pairing them with a blouse or dress. If you have a dress for a special occasion, you may want to take it when you go lingerie shopping. Otherwise follow the guidelines below.
Tank Tops
If you are small chested you may be able get by with wearing a tank top without a bra. Many tank tops now come with a built-in support bra or a shelf bra. However, if you are larger chested or require more support, you may want to wear a strapless bra beneath tank tops. Some clothing designers are now creating tank tops with bras that have underwire support and offer more support than the traditional shelf bra.
Some tank tops have thicker shoulder straps, so you may be able to wear a bra beneath them. You may want to consider wearing a demi bra though (demi bras have smaller cups), if wearing a low cut tank top.
Halter Tops
Some halter tops also now come with built-in bras or shelf bras. However if you are large chested, or need extra support this may not be all you should wear. You can wear a strapless bra beneath your halter top, or you can wear a convertible bra that allows you to hook a strap around your neck beneath the strap of your halter top. You will need to make certain the back of your halter top is high enough to hide the back of your bra or that your bra lies low enough to hide beneath your top.
If you’re having difficulty finding a bra to wear beneath your halter top, you can try an invisible, self adhesive bra. These don’t offer a great deal of support, though they may work for short term functions.
T-Shirts and Other Tight Shirts
When wearing a tight shirt like a t-shirt, you should wear a seamless bra. Victoria's Secret offers many great seamless bra options. Many have a seam that goes diagonally across the nipple. If your shirt is low cut, you may want to wear a demi bra that is also seamless.Strapless Blouses and Dresses
Some blouses and dresses have no shoulder straps whatsoever. You may be able to go braless, but you can also wear a strapless bra. If your dress or blouse is backless or has a low back, a strapless bra may be difficult. In this case, a strapless bra that links around your lower back and lower stomach may work. Pritika, your best bet is to go to a boutique and be sized, then get recommendations right there so that you can try the bras on and compare. Finding the perfect bra depends on your body type, breast size, shape, etc. Just based on your bra size and what you're looking for, I would recommend a push-up bra without extra padding. The Victoria's Secret IPEX bras seem to be getting great reviews from ladies with larger cup sizes.
